Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…Mathew 28:19 (NIV)
It is great when people reach others and lead them to Christ. But I believe God desires for us to do more than just getting people to say a salvation prayer. If it isn’t right to give birth to a child and abandon the child just to give birth to another, it wouldn’t be right to lead someone to Christ and then abandon them.
We ought to endeavor to disciple them and help them grow. Sometimes we could become so focused on “growing” the church that we loose sight of growing people. I believe that we will have more effective believers as we give more time to growing people. Growing people may require time (and it should), but this is what God truly desires for us to do.
So many people claim to be born again Christians but do not fully experience the life of power the Word talks about. They often find themselves struggling with one thing or the other because they aren’t properly discipled or because they feel lonely and ‘uncared’ for. True discipleship ensures that through focused attention and consistent growth and support, they are empowered. The result of discipleship is always a more matured, consistently growing and effective Christian.
I pray that God’s spirit will inspire us to do more than trying to fill up church pews, ‘winning’ souls and move us to true discipleship consciousness. Hope to share more on this. God Bless You
