So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
Habit – a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.
The thought of it excites and this thought also triggers the uncontrollable chase towards fulfilling the excitement. Once triggered they are almost unstoppable
They had a beginning so they can have an end. The key to the existence of a habit is the power or strength of the triggers. You will almost not be able to sustain a habit if the trigger(s) is destroyed. Sadly many are trying to stop a habit with the triggers in place. Take away the triggers and the habits will come to an end.
Detriments of an unhealthy habit
Unhealthy habits have a climax of excitement. After the climax comes the regrets. The regrets last longer than the excitement and may even last a life time
Bad habits are costly and they increase your debts in life. They make you less confident about your personality or self control. They are disgraceful to the view you or others may have about you. It may take a lifetime to build a trust but a second to loose it . An obsession to overcome a bad habit causes anxiety. It makes God’s work in your life unstable therefore taking longer to get you to where God planned for you to be
The benefits of healthy habits
They may not always have an excitement but the effects are always rewarding. They are more challenging to cultivate but once consciously cultivated yield dividends of a lifetime. Your healthy habits tell the story of someone who has become successful and empower you with practical experience to help those who are under the bondage of a contrary habit.
Just as bad habits may destroy relationships and lives, good habits will build them. Fulfillment of purpose, confidence in life are fruits of cultured good habits. Habits that glorify God and empower you are the keys to fulfilling your destiny and living a happy life. Life can be so beautiful when godly habits are cultivated.
Choose to cultivate godly and healthy habits. It may look difficult initially but it gets easier and very rewarding with time.
God Bless You
